Vitoria (in Euskara: Gasteiz-name of the primitive village crowning the hill-and officially Vitoria-Gasteiz) is a Spanish city, the capital of Alava and the Basque Country. Located at a crossroads, it has been throughout history a major strategic point both militarily and commercially and culturally. Since Roman times, where the Roman road passing through Astorga and Bordeaux Álava, these lands have not ceased to be a communication hub between Europe and Central Plateau. In this crossroads village did the original Gasteiz.
