Balearic Islands are a Spanish region composed of the Balearic Islands archipelago, located in the Mediterranean Sea along the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula.
The archipelago consists of two groups of islands and numerous islets:
* The Gimnesias: Menorca, Mallorca and Cabrera and some nearby islets (as Dragonera, Island Air and others).
* The Pitiusas: Ibiza and Formentera and the various islands that surround them (as Hutch).
Mallorca (from Latin insula maior, later Maiorica "big island") is the largest island of the Balearic archipelago and this autonomous archipelago's easternmost of Spain, autonomous province in casually. As Menorca and Ibiza, Majorca is an important tourist destination. It has 3625.75 square kilometers and 790,763 inhabitants (2006) (density: 218.09 hab. / Km ²).
The capital of the island (and also of the Spanish autonomous community of the Balearic Islands) is Palma de Mallorca or as known inhabitants of the "rest of Mallorca" (the part of the island that is not the capital): Ciutat. The archipelago of Cabrera belongs to the municipality of Palma.
