Jaen is the capital of the province of Jaén, or as it is known, the capital of the Holy Kingdom. Located in southern Spain and north-eastern region of Andalusia. It has a population of 116,393 inhabitants (2007, source INE), which represents about one sixth of the population of the province.
Jaén is part of the metropolitan area of Jaén is heading, and which absorbs a third of the total population of the province of Jaen.
Under the banner of world capital of olive oil, the economy of the city, however, is based on the services sector, government, agriculture and food industry, construction, and an emerging cultural tourism.
The city of Jaen stands at the foot of the Cerro de Santa Catalina, steep streets and steep slopes define its architecture, broadening to the flatter areas and broad new neighborhoods and boulevards. Surrounded by many fertile farmland and extensive olive groves looking for the rest of the Guadalquivir Valley. To the south and southeast are the Sierras de Jaén and Jabalcuz that shelter the city and north opens Guadalbullón River Plain, which runs a short distance of the city.
