Ciudad Real is a Spanish city, capital of the province and its judicial district. It is located in the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha.
The census of Ciudad Real is 71,005 inhabitants (INE 2006). It lies at an altitude of 628 meters. Its district covers 285 km ². It includes 4 main population centers: Ciudad Real, Las Casas, Valverde and La Poblachuela. It is located about 200 km south of Madrid.
The province is on the way from Toledo to Andalusia, the main route of communication between Spain during most of its history, so that transportation has never been a problem in Ciudad Real. The A-4 north to south through the province between Puerto Lápice and Almuradiel on the way from Madrid to Andalusia. The capital, Puertollano and other locations are attached to this road through the motorway A-43 and A-41. The northeast of the province is also communicated through the Highway of the Vineyards.
The route of the Spanish High Speed (AVE) stops in the towns of Ciudad Real and Puertollano.
